About the Program
Mission Statement
The Extension Program provides before and after school care for Notre Dame students. The Program maintains safety as a top priority while offering a fun, creative and stimulating environment for the benefit of the children. It serves an important function for working families by providing peace of mind to parents and guardians while offering quality care that is consistent with values taught throughout the day. On-site care for children helps to make the transition to and from school each day less stressful. Students are with the same staff, teachers, classmates and surroundings the whole day.
Personal Philosophy
My philosophy of education is simple: I will teach each child with dignity and respect and help each child become aware of his/her role as an important member of the group. At school I will gear the program to the needs of the individual style and pace of learning of each child. As a teacher I will be able to identify a "teachable moment" and strive to reach each child's developmental potential. Learning will be viewed as a process of discovery and exposure to appropriate developmental experiences; not just expecting children to come up with "correct answers." Not all children learn through the same medium and each child needs to have the avenue of their learning potential found and explored. As a teacher I will motivate and guide students into acquiring skills and I will create learning experiences that will help develop the intellectual, social, physical and creative processes of all children in my care.
